| Dr. Scheide is here in Argentina! He is the coolest.

| Just felt like some Get Up Kids today. It seemed appropriate, even if I'm not in England.
Out of Reach
Long way from home,
Lost by an echo
I’d never have known.
I’ve got pictures to prove I was there,
But you don’t care.
Here’s me overseas,
Across the pond by the Dover peaks.
I’ve smuggled myself into new nationalities,
You think you’d be proud of me.
There’s room to believe,
Out of sight,
Out of mind,
Out of reach.
Start over
Is no way to begin.
Long way from home,
Lost by an echo
I’d never have known.
I’ve got pictures to prove I was there,
But you don’t care.
There’s room to believe,

No way to begin.
Way to begin.

| Hey, I don't know if anybody reads this anymore, but for those who are interested.
School
just finished its third week, and I am starting to get settled into a
routine. I started my language classes last week, and I am trying to
practice my Spanish when I can, but there is a strong temptation to
talk exclusively with the other Americans here.
The group from
here that went to Cuba had a wonderful week of camp. They had twenty
decisions for salvation and next year they are hoping to find better
facilities, take more literature, and have several weeks of camp.
The
chaplain of our school is counseling about sixteen families from the
nearby town who have children attending our school. He meets with them
on a monthly or bimonthly basis and helps with family and marital
problems. Last week he was able to lead the mother of one of our
kindergarten students to the Lord.
Two nights ago, I attended
a singles fellowship at the local church in town. It has been a
blessing to see that wherever I go, I am able to fellowship with other
believers. Despite all our differences, we have the same God, and the
same Spirit. Even as I was struggling through introductions in Spanish,
everyone was kind and welcoming. Three of the singles there were alumni
from the school at which I am teaching. One of them told me that it was
because of that school, and the people who sacrifice to operate it,
that he was able to learn English and he is now on staff at Word of
Life as a translator for American missions trips. It has been
encouraging to see the fruit of this ministry already, and I am glad
God has brought me here to be a part of it.
Thank all of you for your prayers.

| Man, it's been a while since I wrote here. Anyway, for all of you who don't have facebook, this is what's happening here.
I arrived in Argentina
about a week and a half ago, and I have been working on getting settled. I have
been given a staff apartment with its own bathroom and kitchenette and I have
been able to go into the town here and buy most of the things I couldn’t bring
with me. The first weekend I was here, I
was able to take a day trip to the capital Buenos Aires,
which has over 13 million people. It is
enormous city that ranges from wealthy shopping districts to old apartments. I
was amazed by the size of the city, and though there are good churches in Buenos
Aires, I was sad when I realized how many still need the Gospel.
The Word of Life campus is about two hours south of the
capital outside a small town called Monte. I am the history teacher in the high
school, and I started classes last Monday. The school has been extremely
short-handed and we are operating with the bare minimum of teachers. My arrival was welcomed by the other teachers
on staff, and I was quickly assigned to the spot that had been left open by a
teacher who had left at the end of last semester. I have been spending most of
my time trying to familiarize myself with the textbooks and making lesson
plans. I am learning that kids are
pretty much the same everywhere: school is definitely not their favorite way to
spend the week. I have about thirty-five students in three classes. We are
still getting to know each other, and I pray that I will be able to influence
their lives.
The school here is an important part of the overall ministry
of Word of Life. Although many of the
students come from the nearby town, the school was founded to provide an
education for the children of the missionary staff so the missionaries do not
have to spend time home schooling their children. The campus here has many
ministries. It is the headquarters for
Word of Life in all Spanish speaking countries.
There is a four year Bible institute here that has several hundred
students training for the ministry. It is also the center of many missionary
projects that are being run by Word of Life. Two groups are leaving here soon;
one heading to Cuba
to run a summer camp, and another is heading to Iraq
on a missions trip. It has been
encouraging to see the passion of the Christians here, and their desire to
reach the world for Christ.
Please continue to pray for me here in Argentina. I start language school tomorrow, so please
pray for me as I attempt to learn Spanish.
Please pray for my ministry to the students in the school, and that I
will be able to have an impact while I am here.
Thanks to everyone who is praying for me back in the States,
-Jeffrey | | |
